The Temporary Partition and Temperature Control Challenge
In one of our largest jobs, with many different elements to consider, we created a separate area of our client’s deep chilled warehouse to be held at a fixed 15 degrees. Measuring at 288,000 sq/mt and at a height of 20 metres, this area was partitioned from the main deep chill warehouse to create a banana storage chamber. Achieving good airflow around the area would be key to the success of this project.
The Warehouse Partition Solution;
After a lot of preliminary design and engineering work, it was decided to mount six units on a high-level gantry. Another twelve were mounted on scaffold platforms on the rear wall of the warehouse. This did a great job of circulating the air around the warehouse.
Placing 6 x 700kg air handling units (AHUs) on a gantry meant careful attention was paid to the planning of this particular installation. Safety was critical so we enlisted the help of a professional lifting company with a telehandler.
Two chilled water cooling systems were used with a total capacity of 950kw. The chillers were located externally and piped with 10 bar rubber suction hosing. For quick and reliable installation, our pipe-work systems use Camloc hose connections and branch fittings. The air was heated by electric heater banks fitted to the AHUs using 18Kw total each.
We set up two control zones, one for the low-level AHUs and the other for the high level. One AHU on each zone was set up as a master, controlling the other slave units’ heating and cooling functions.
Temperature control was excellent, within 0.5 of a degree around set-point. We achieved this level by also opening space between rows of tightly packed pallets, increasing air penetration.
Our warehouse partitioning and temperature control ensured our client made economic use of existing warehouse space. If you would like to know more about our warehouse partitioning services, please contact us
